Victim’s brother arrested in connection to deadly shooting
POCAHONTAS, Ark. (KAIT) - Pocahontas Police Department officers found a man dead at a home on Park Street in Pocahontas early Sunday morning.
According to a press release, officers were dispatched to the home around 3:54 Sunday morning. When they arrived, they found a white male dead inside the home with gunshot wounds.
Pocahontas Police Investigators and Arkansas State Police were called to investigate the incident.
A bond hearing on Monday revealed that 21-year-old Shaun Crawford was arrested in connection with Sunday’s deadly shooting.
Detective Jonathan Adams with the Pocahontas Police Department testified before the court due to a probable cause affidavit being unavailable.
Detective Adams said the department found an unresponsive male at the 500 block of South Park Street with a gunshot wound.
The victim was later identified to be Ian Crawford. In Adams’ testimony, it was said that Shaun and Ian were brothers.
The detective said after Shaun had shot Ian, he took the firearm and discarded a magazine behind the First Assembly of God Church down the street from the home.
After some time, Shaun returned to the scene and spoke to police.
Shaun Crawford faces charges of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.
Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Devon Holder said while all defendants are innocent until proven guilty, he expects Crawford’s charges to be filed in the next two weeks.
He was given a $250,000 cash-only bond. If Crawford posts bond, he must wear an ankle monitor.
He’ll return to court on the morning of May 15 at nine in Randolph County.
Chief David Edington told Region 8 News he was unavailable for an interview after Monday’s bond hearing.
