LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KARK/KAIT) – Summit Utilities is speaking out after Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced new measures against the company.

On Thursday, March 16, Griffin said he would be taking customer complaints toward the company to the state’s Public Service Commission over the size of the bills.

Content partner KARK asked Summit Utilities on Thursday, March 17 if it had done anything to make sure those errors wouldn’t happen again.

Senior Director of External Affairs Brian Bowers said the issues had been addressed and welcomed working with the commission and Griffin on the investigation.

On Wednesday, March 22, the PSC issued a statement on the investigation:

Having reviewed the AG’s Motion, the numerous complaints received and investigated by the Commission, the class action lawsuit, and extensive coverage by the media of the allegations against Summit, and after making a preliminary investigation of the natural gas costs and billing practices which are the subject of the recent complaints against Summit, the Commission believes that sufficient grounds exist to justify a formal investigation of and hearing on those matters. Therefore, pursuant to Ark. Code Ann. § 23-3-118, the Commission now opens formal investigations of the natural gas costs and billing practices of Summit.

Jeff Hilton, Interim Executive Director for Arkansas Public Service Commission
