$500,000 bond set for armed robbery suspect
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Jonesboro police found a backpack with a large amount of money inside a vehicle with a man who police said admitted to committing a pair of armed robberies.
On Friday, a judge found probable cause to charge 20-year-old Jayleaun Brown of Searcy with aggravated robbery and set his bond at $500,000 bond.
According to Jonesboro police, the first robbery happened at Casey’s, 2920 South Caraway Rd., just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8. Police said in the court documents the suspect was wearing all black and a facemask.
According to the affidavit, Brown walked into the store, showed a firearm, and left with an undisclosed amount of money. Officers then used a K9 to try to track Brown.
While searching for him, officers got another call minutes later about another robbery at the Kum & Go at 3105 South Stadium Blvd.
“An employee stated that a subject wearing all black and a face mask demanded money from the register,” the affidavit stated. “The employee could see a gun in the suspect’s waistline.”
A K9 unit found Brown behind the Kum & Go at 2607 Red Wolf Blvd.
Brown then got into a vehicle and drove off, going through several red lights and driving through the front yard of several houses on Martinbrook Cove.
Police said they followed him until he wrecked near the intersection of Kitchen Street and Matthews Avenue.
Officers also found the gun believed to have been used in the robbery in a bathroom at the Kum & Go on Red Wolf.
Brown was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated robbery; theft of a vehicle valued at less than $25,000 but greater than $5,000; criminal mischief-2nd degree; theft $1,000 or less; and reckless driving.
Brown will be arraigned on Jan. 19 in circuit court in Jonesboro.
