Human remains identified as missing man
NEWPORT, Ark. (KAIT) - The skeletal remains that were found in Jackson County earlier this month are those of a man reported missing in 2019, Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas said Wednesday.
Lucas said in a media release that authorities received word about the identification.
“The skeletal remains that were recovered in rural Jackson County near the Olyphant community on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021 have been identified by the State Medical Examiner’s office as Michael John Morris, age 22, of Bradford,” Lucas said.
Morris was reported missing in Jan. 2019. Officials said at the time that he was last seen walking home along Highway 367 in the Olyphant community.
Lucas said that his office got a call around 10 a.m. Nov. 19 about the discovery.
Lucas said a hunter had found possible human remains.
Both Jackson and White County deputies then went to a wooded area in the Olyphant community, just off Highway 367 South to search the area.
Lucas said deputies then found the remains.
Region 8 News will have more details as they become available.
